Rahul Gandhi on Monday directed Finance Ministers of Congress-ruled states to seek specific changes to the GST such as addressing compliance issues and rationalisation of tax rate structure at the meetings of the GST Council.
The directives came at a meeting to assess the impact of GST on the economy that was chaired by Rahul and attended by former prime minister Manmohan Singh, former minister P Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh, Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Badal and other senior leaders of the party. "GST is a proof of how a good idea can be destroyed. GST is a good idea, but the government has implemented it in a wrong manner which has led to great loss to the GDP," Rahul told reporters .
