Seers at Kumbh slam BJP over Ram Temple

A meeting of the religious leaders, saints and seers at the ongoing 'Kumbh' festival at Prayagraj, about 200 kilometers from here, on Monday slammed the BJP for ''inaction'' over Ram Temple construction at Ayodhya.

The 'Paramdharm Sansad' (Religious Parliament) in which around one hundred saints and seers from different corners of the world took part, also adopted a resolution ''condemning'' the BJP government at the centre for its ''failure'' on the Ram Temple issue.

''The Ram Temple would have been constructed had the government so desired....it could have urged the court to expedite the matter....but it did nothing during the past four and half year,'' said a senior Hindu seer, who was present at the meeting.

He also said that the saint community was ''very upset'' with the BJP over the latter's ''inaction'' on the Ayodhya issue.

The meeting, which was chaired by Swami Swaroopananda Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of the Dwarikapeeth, would continue for three days during which several other issues, including protection of cows, conversion, cultural education and environment, would be discussed.

The saint community was also likely to set a deadline for the Ram Temple construction, according to the sources.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which had in November organized a 'dharma sabha' at Ayodhya, has also convened a meeting of the saints at Kumbh on February one to deliberate on the Ram Temple issue.

A few senior BJP leaders were likely to be present at the VHP sponsored meeting, sources said.
