Claiming that the racket involving other girls operated in several states, the victim has handed over mobile phone clips to police revealing identities of her exploiters. She has claimed she was taken to Bangalore and Mysore by her tormentors.

The police have arrested 39 of over 100 people, including the girl’s father Sudheer, who had sexually exploited her.

A local committee secretary of the CPM in Ernakulam district was arrested on Friday by the Crime Branch for having sex with the underage girl in a lodge in Thiruvananthapuram along with two of his friends.

The CPM expelled the leader Thomas Varghese from the party. Search is on for a police official of Tamil Nadu special branch who was involved in the crime saga.

Many of these people who have gone underground will be caught in the coming days, said a senior official. An identification parade is being planned.

A woman, who was nabbed for taking the girl around, has said she was also presented to an Arab who stayed in a prominent hotel in Kochi. The girl’s father and a middleman had threatened to throw her into the Varappuzha river near their house if she did not succumb to their demands.

The father had later sold her to a contractor based in Kanyakumari named Manikandan for Rs 40,000. He used the girl to entertain several of his high connections. It was Manikandan who spilled the beans on several pimps he came across to “market” the girl.
