BJP president Amit Shah on Tuesday launched the party's 'Sampark for Samarthan' campaign by visiting former army chief general Dalbir Sing Suhag at his residence here to explain the achievements of Narendra Modi government.

Shah also met former Lok Sabha secretary general Subhash Kashyap as part of the programme, in which 4,000 selected BJP leaders, including chief ministers and Union ministers, will meet one lakh prominent people from various walks of life, such as the arts, legal fraternity, the military and films.

However, Shah's meeting with Suhag did not go down well with the Congress.

Senior Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari tweeted, "These are extremely portentous Conventions that BJP Is laying down. Using armed forces as a surrogate prop for political ends will have profound implications on Civil- Military relations & the carefully nurtured & assiduously cultivated Military traditions of the past 70 years."

The 'Sampark for Samarthan' campaign, aimed at preparing the BJP's ground for the Lok Sabha polls, will also see 50 lakh selected party workers visiting every home in the country.

Shah said he briefed both Suhag and Kashyap about the "work done and historic initiatives" undertaken by the Modi government in the last four years.

"During this campaign, we will inform people about the achievements of the government and the work it would undertake during the fifth year of Modi government. We will explain the measures taken by the government to uplift the poor and downtrodden," Shah told reporters after the meetings.

He said the party workers visiting the common people have been provided with booklets, pen drives and literature that explain the government's work, achievements and future plan.

As part of an outreach programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reached out to people through the NaMo app on Monday and Tuesday to discuss the Ujjwala Scheme and Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojna.
