Shatru to play NTR on screen

Confirming this, a source close to Sinha told Deccan Herald on Monday: “It’s true that noted film-maker Ram Gopal Verma has signed Shatrughan Sinha to play NTR in his forthcoming movie ‘Rakta Charitra’, which is based on the life and times of N T Ramarao, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.”

The magnum opus, which is supposed to be made in three languages – Hindi, Telugu and Tamil, will showcase NTR’s success both in reel as well as real life. The movie is likely to be something akin to the grandeur of an epic like the Mahabharat.

While Shatru will feature in the Hindi version, South Indian film icon Mohan Babu will enact NTR in the Telugu and Tamil versions. “Ram Gopal Verma met me the other day with the proposal that I play the charismatic Andhra leader’s role in his forthcoming movie Rakta Charitra. I could not say no to a dear friend like Verma,” said the actor, who is now a Lok Sabha member from Patna Sahib.

His wife and an accomplished actress of yesteryears –– Poonam Sinha –– was last seen on the silver screen playing the role of Aishwarya Rai’s mother-in-law in Ashutosh Gowarikar’s ‘Jodha Akbar’.

“Though my political role nowadays leaves little room for me to pursue my creative instincts, yet I have taken up this assignment as a challenge,” averred Shotgun.
