Show us your EVMs, will prove hacking charge: AAP to EC

The AAP on Thursday protested outside the Election Commission here and pushed for forming a committee of leaders and officials of the poll panel before which it can prove tampering of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

The AAP workers led by Delhi Minister Gopal Rai staged a dharna outside the EC office on the busy Ashoka Road, blocking traffic in the morning demanding that voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT)- equipped EVMs to be used in future elections.

Rai, who was recently appointed Delhi convenor of AAP, said the manipulation of EVMs was killing democracy. The protest also comes a day before the EC is holding an all-party meeting on poll reforms, including the EVM issue.

Two days ago, AAP had called a special session of Delhi Assembly and its MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj gave a "live demonstration" of tampering of EVMS using a "secret code".

The AAP has raised the pitch about manipulation of EVMs following its drubbing in the recent Punjab and Goa Assembly elections and the Delhi civic polls.

The AAP on Thursday also fielded Bharadwaj at a press conference during which he made a demand that the Election Commission should form a committee of representatives of parties and officials of the poll panel.

"The first question is whether EVMs can be tampered. We have proved in Delhi Assembly through a demonstration that EVMs can be tampered. The second question is whether the EVMs were tampered in the recent Assembly elections. To prove this, we need EC's help," Bharadwaj said.

"Why is it that all the technical defects in EVMs that have come to light recently, say in Bhind or Dholpur, favoured only the BJP?" Bhardwaj asked.

He said the AAP is ready to demonstrate before the panel about how the EVMs could have tampered. "We will raise the issue at Friday's meeting," he told a press conference.

BJP said it will approach the EC seeking a probe into the EVM tampering demonstration.
