Kerala Congman accused of sexual assault

In an embarrassment to the Congress, a local leader and a former panchayat president at North Kerala district of Wayanad allegedly sexually abused a minor girl hailing from the tribal community. The incident came to light after the girl attempted suicide.

The Wayanad police registered a case against the Congress leader O M George in this connection under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. George is absconding and is was suspected to have fled to the nearby parts of Karnataka, police sources said.

George was allegedly sexually abusing the victim over the past one year. The Childline workers came to know about the incident after the girl made an attempt on her life. They subsequently reported the matter to the police the other day and the police initiated the case. A statement of the girl was also recorded. Geroge happens to be former president of Sulthan Bathery Panchayat in Wayanad.
