A rape case was registered against Malayalam actor-producer Vijay Babu by the Kochi police on the basis of the complaint by a Malayalam actress.

The actress alleged that Babu raped her several times by offering her roles in films and even recorded an obscene video of her. She accused him of intoxicating her before being sexually abused.

The case was registered on April 22 and Babu is reported to be absconding. Some reports suggested that he fled the country.

Babu on Tuesday night hosted a live session on social media where he denied the allegations. He also mentioned the name of the actress, which was met with heavy criticism.

He maintained that he was the real victim and would reveal the messages sent by the woman to prove his innocence. He also said that he would file a defamation case.

"Since I have done nothing wrong, I am least afraid as to what's in store for me. I also know the laws of the country with regard to 'Me Too' allegations. I am disclosing the name of the lady. I have decided to take legal steps against this lady and it includes filing a hefty defamation suit. I have all the records with me to prove my innocence," Babu said.

"I am the victim in this case as I know how pained are my mother, my family, friends and well-wishers because of this baseless complaint. But I am not going to sit idle, I will fight it out and let it be a new beginning in such cases," he said.

The police said that efforts to trace the accused were under way. A fresh case will be registered against him for revealing the identity of the victim, the police said.
