Teachers in trouble for ‘writing exams’

Last Updated 12 May 2019, 07:32 IST

A government school at Kozhikode in North Kerala has landed in a soup following charges of manipulating answer sheets of students in public examinations to get better results for the school.

The principal and two teachers have been suspended and a detailed probe by the Kerala education department is on. The probe would be handed over to the police if required, said Kerala Education Minister C Raveendranath.

Neeleswaram Government Higher Secondary School at Mukkom in Kozhikode is facing allegations of manipulations in answer sheets of 36 higher secondary students during the examination held in March.

The school was hoping to hit a pass percentage of 100.

The computer science teacher of the school, Nishad V Muhammed, who was also the deputy chief examiner, allegedly made the manipulations in connivance with the principal and chief examination superintendent K Raziya.

Apart from them, another deputy chief examiner and a teacher from another school, P K Faizal, were also suspended.

English and computer science answer sheets written by four students were allegedly replaced with those written by Nishad. Corrections were allegedly made in 32 other answer sheets.

Nishad was reported to have maintained that he had only assisted students who were weak in studies.

However, the education department officials have not taken this into account. Results of some students were also withheld after the manipulations came to light during the valuation, said sources.
