A family in Kerala's Wayanad had a harrowing experience as a tiger came to their house and tried to open the door Wednesday night.

Forty-two-year-old Salitha and her nephew, Mithun, aged 20, who were at the house during the time had a narrow escape as the tiger returned to the forest.

The house is situated close to the forests at Thirunelli in Wayanad and wild animals like elephants are frequently spotted in the area.

The two told the police and forest officials that around 11 pm they heard a sound at the front door and that their pet dog was also barking continuously. Once they looked towards the direction of their door, they noticed the tiger trying to push open it open. Both of them rushed to the door and pushed the door from inside. After some time the tiger withdrew.

They later alerted the local police and forest authorities. Marks of the tiger’s paws were reportedly spotted by the forest authorities near the house. Surveillance cameras were also installed in the locality.

A couple of months ago a crocodile entered a house at Athirapally in Thrissur district. The area is known for eco-tourism and the house was close to river.
