Yet another TDP MLA quits party to join Jagan

Within a month of a prominent ruling party legislator joining the Opposition party in Andhra Pradesh, one more sitting MLA has quit the party and met YSRCP Chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Wednesday. The TDP legislator from Prakasam District will be joining the YSRCP soon.

TDP MLA Amanchi Krishnamohan from Chirala Assembly segment tendered his resignation to party chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu and alleged that a few forces not attached to the party have made his life miserable. He then drove to Lotus Pond, Reddy's official residence, to meet him. Krishnamohan, who won the 2014 elections from Chirala as an independent, later joined the TDP.

“There is no other option for the people of AP than choosing Jagan. He is the man who keeps his word just like his father YS Rajasekhara Reddy. I have quit TDP for good and will be joining the YSRCP shortly,” he said after meeting Jagan.

Alleging that casteism is ruling the roost in the party, Krishnamohan said that Naidu has not only lost grip on the party but also on himself. “Probably Naidu is slowly losing sanity,” Krishnamohan said.

Another issue at play is that Krishnamohan's brother was booked by the police in the Tuni train burning case during a Kapu protest programme.

Meanwhile, Naidu has directed party MLCs Karanam Balaram and Pothula Suneetha to organise an emergency meeting with available leaders in Chirala and explain the situation to them. He wants to assure them that the party is keen on resolving the existing differences among the groups.

In January, the Rajampet TDP MLA who was suspended from the party for anti-party activities, joined the YSRCP. Along with him, hundreds of his followers joined the YSRCP.

The YSR Congress party won 67 seats in the last Assembly elections. Out of the 67 seats, 23 MLAs left the party and joined the TDP.
