Budding actress Sri Reddy’s abusive comments on actor-politician Pawan Kalyan took a serious political turn, with the hero staging a protest in front of the Movie Artistes' Association office in Jubilee Hills here on Friday. He accused the ruling Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh of hatching a plan to tarnish his image through Sri Reddy.

A week ago Sri Reddy stripped to protest against casting couch practice in the Telugu film industry.

Sri Reddy, reacting to a suggestion by the JanaSena chief that she should file a police complaint against those exploiting her instead of protesting semi-nude in front of the film chamber, used a derogatory word against Pawan's mother and used an offensive gesture against him. However, the issue took a political colour with maverick filmmaker Ramgopal Verma (RGV) coming to the rescue of Sri Reddy and claiming that he was behind the actress’s outburst.

The situation went out of hand with Mega Star Chiranjeevi’s family members jumping into the arena and abusing RGV as a rogue. On Friday, while Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Nara Chandrababu Naidu embarked on a one-day fast in Vijayawada, Pawan Kalyan in a series of tweets alleged the hand of Nara Lokesh, son of Chandrababu Naidu and a few channels, in the verbal attack by the artiste. The hero suspects Rs 10 crore has been spent to drag him into the controversy.

RGV retorts

Pawan Kalyan, who protested along with his elder brother Nagababu and brother Chiru’s brother-in-law Allu Aravind for almost four hours, demanded action against RGV and Sri Reddy. He also consulted lawyers. “Chiranjeevi’s family members are soft targets to get instant publicity. Why has the film chamber, the Producers' council and MAA not initiated action against RGV as he has openly accepted that he instigated Sri Reddy to abuse our hapless mother,” Nagababu asked.

While the TDP refused to react to the allegations made by Pawan Kalyan, RGV in a tweet questioned the timing of Pawan Kalyan’s dharna at the film chamber. “Pawan Kalyan, who has advised Sri Reddy to file a complaint with the police,  enacted a drama at the film chamber. I suspect that he wanted to divert the attention of people from Naidu’s hunger strike,” RGV said.
