Last Updated 17 June 2011, 15:57 IST

The students were led by none other than the local MLA and Thane NCP chief Bunty Jitendra Awhad.

The kids carrying placards demanding teaching staff for their school straight marched towards the mayor's seat and disrupted the proceedings.

The members in the house including mayor Ashok Vaity and the civic chief R A Rajeev were caught napping and the drama went on for over an hour.

Later the administration came out with assurances that four teachers would be appointed in the school.

However, the meeting was adjourned after condemning the entire incident.

Later, addressing a news conference the Mayor criticised the act a political stunt. He clarified that the teaching staff had already been sanctioned but the process of selection and appointment was taking time.

Moreover, the local  corporator had never brought this to the notice of the corporation, the mayor said.
