Sympathetic govt to benefit Gujarat: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday reminded people in his poll-bound home state of Gujarat the benefits of having same party governments in the state as well as the Centre.

Quoting examples of the Atal Behari Vajpayee government in Delhi and Keshubhai Patel government in the state and that of his government and the Vijay Rupani government in Gujarat, Modi said progress had been achieved only when the government in the Centre was sympathetic to the state’s interest.

“Gujarat witnessed one of the worst natural disasters in the form of an earthquake when Atalji’s government was at the Centre. No one would be sure how long it would have taken for Gujarat to stand on its feet, if not for Atalji’s government,” said the prime minister.

“Gujarat should not let go of a single opportunity to benefit from the government at the Centre which is sympathetic to the state,” he added.

The ruling BJP is fighting on multiple fronts politically and facing its toughest challenge due to anti-incumbency of 22 years of rule in the state.

With Modi, its biggest USP in the state, the party has roped in the prime minister to visit the state regularly. The prime minister has made 19 trips to his poll-bound home state since taking over the reins in Delhi in 2014

Modi also hit out at the Congress stating that the only news when the party was in power was that of large-scale corruption. “One lakh crore rupees gone. Two lakh rupees gone. There was corruption in everything, coal, submarine or helicopter. Since I have come, now they keep asking is how much money has come?,” remarked Modi.
