Telangana to buy 1,000 MW from Chhattisgarh

Last Updated 03 November 2014, 20:19 IST

The Telangana government on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chhattisgarh to buy 1,000 MW power through a long-term power purchase agreement to meet its present and long-term electricity requirements.

Chhattisgarh will supply power from the Janjgir thermal power station. Power-starved Telangana is also seeking another 1,000 MW from Chhattisgarh.

Senior officials signed the agreement and exchanged them in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his Chhattisgarh counterpart Raman Singh at a function in Raipur.

Rao thanked Singh for agreeing to sell power to Telangana. However, the power will reach Telangana only after the Power Grid Corporation erects supply lines between the two states, which might take considerable time. It is said that tenders to erect the lines would be called in a month.
