Trinamool MP names Didi in Saradha scam

In a fresh twist in the Saradha scam investigation, the name of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has come up, with arrested Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh calling attention to her on Saturday.

Ghosh demanded that all influential Trinamool leaders, including Banerjee, be interrogated in his presence.

Ghosh, who was sent to the Rajya Sabha in 2012 but was later suspended from the TMC on his arrest in connection with his alleged involvement in the multi-crore scam, told a court on Saturday that if the CBI wanted to unveil the truth behind the scam, it should interrogate all influential TMC leaders in his presence.

He added that Banerjee had the most to gain from the Saradha Group’s publicity, and she should be interrogated in his and Saradha boss Sudipto Sen's presence.

Ghosh’s statement created a flutter in the state’s political circles, with the Opposition parties immediately launching a demand for Banerjee’s resignation.

The TMC chief’s name first came up a few days ago when the CBI found that the Saradha Group’s travel wing tied up with Indian Rail subsidiary company IRCTC for festive package tours some years ago. While two former TMC rail ministers, Mukul Roy and Dinesh Trivedi, denied involvement with Saradha, Opposition parties surmised that the deal was struck during Banerjee’s tenure as rail minister.
