Trinamool seeks disqualification of rebel MP from Lok Sabha

The action came a day after the singer-turned-politician sent an SMS to Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee announcing his resignation from the party as well as his decision to quit from the Lok Sabha.

Lok Sabha sources said Trinamool Congress has written to Speaker Meira Kumar seeking Suman's disqualification.

The Speaker, who is away in Bangkok attending the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting, has, however, not got any letter from the MP resigning his Jadavpur seat, they said.
Suman's sympathetic stand towards Maoists and outbursts against alleged in-house corruption has embarrassed the party.
His resignation capped months of uneasy ties between him and the party, especially Banerjee who was understood to be unhappy over the manner in which CPI(M), arch political rival of Trinamool Congress, was drawing mileage from his remarks against his own party.

The action by Suman came a week after Banerjee asked the disciplinary committee to prepare a report on his public outbursts against alleged corruption in the party and sympathy towards Maoists, in contravention of the party's stand.
