Trinamool undemocratic, says Left Front

The opposition Left Front in West Bengal Wednesday accused the Trinamool Congress, the ruling party led by Mamata Banerjee, of being "undemocratic" and run "autocratically".

"There is no democracy within the Trinamool Congress. It is one person who takes all the decisions. The party does not believe in the democratic set-up of the country. The party is highly undemocratic," Left Front chairman Biman Bose said here.

Bose was speaking at an event by the Democratic Youth Federation of India -- the youth wing of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) -- in North 24-Parganas district.

"Before deciding their (Trinamool's) stand in the Lok Sabha, their MPs frequently call up their supremo (Banerjee) seeking her orders. Had there been democracy in the party, there was no need for so many telephone calls," Bose said.

He also attacked the state government, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, for its performance and said the government has been a failure in effectively implementing developmental projects and schemes.

"Don't be impatient. The government has completed only one-and-a-half years. There is still a lot of time left. The people are aware about their poor performance no matter how much they publicise their performance," he said.

The Left Front, which ruled the state uninterruptedly for 34 years, was defeated in the assembly polls last year, with the Trinamool forming the new government.
