TRS pushes its way in LC Chairman's election

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Wednesday succeeded in installing its candidate and former TNGO leader V Swamy Goud as Telangana Legislative Council Chairman through secret ballot instead of the usual consensus and voice vote.

The 40-member strong Upper House had just six TRS members, but the party’s strength went up to 15 following recent defections.

The strength of Congress, which had clear majority, was reduced to just 12, while the TDP has four seats, MIM and PDF two each.

There was high drama in the House before the Chairman’s elections, with Congress floor leader D Srinivas opposing the election process.
