Two army Jawans electrocuted during I-Day preparation

In a tragic incident two army personnel at the 34 (A) NCC Battalion office in Ongole, in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh died of electrocution on the wee hours of Wednesday while they were trying to erect a pole meant for hoisting the national flag.

According to sources, Havildar Basant Rana of Nepal, and Havildar Gali Appalanaidu of Santakaviti Mandal of Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh were trying to erect the iron pole without noticing a transformer adjacent to it.

The iron pole came into contact with the transformer, electrocuting them instantly. They both died on the spot.

Meanwhile, other staff members who were also busy with arrangements inside the NCC office rushed them to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, where they were declared brought dead.

A pall of gloom descended in all the educational institutions in Prakasam district as the two army men were said to be active in imparting military education to the students. The NCC office has informed the kin of the two men about their demise.
