UP flood situation remains grim

The flood situation continued to remain grim in Uttar Pradesh with major rivers rising above the danger mark at several places even as the death toll in the flood related incidents in different parts of the state rose to 65.

Major rivers including the Ganga, Sharda, Rapti, Gandak and Yamuna which were flowing above the danger mark at several places, according to the officials here. The Ganga was rising at Fategarh,  while Gahgra was flowing above the danger mark at Barabanki and Ballia districts. Hundreds of villages have been affected by floods and thousands of people have been shifted to safer places.

Rains continued to lash parts of the state on Friday worsening the situation. Discharge of water from different reservoirs only compounded the problem.
