A video clip of a drunk policeman travelling in the Delhi Metro went viral on the social media on Saturday night, raising serious questions over the state of commuters’ safety.

To add to the shocker, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) indulged in a blame game over the matter with neither side ready to initiate a probe.

While the DMRC said the responsibility of looking after the security in the entire metro network lies with the CISF. “It is for the concerned authorities to initiate a probe into the incident,” said a metro official.

The CISF, on the other hand, said it is in no position to begin a probe since nobody had filed any complaint. “We don’t surf the internet and act on such clips being uploaded by people,” said a CISF official who put the ball in the court of the Delhi Metro Rail Police, saying the matter lies with the latter.

The concerned official could not be contacted even after repeated phone calls.According to DMRC rules, if a person is found in an inebriated state on Metro premises, he would be fined up to Rs 500 and asked to get off from the train or leave the station. Even carrying alcohol on the Metro premises is prohibited.

The 36-second clip showing the policeman with his shirt untucked roaming inside a metro, was shared over 6,000 times in Facebook at the time of writing this report. The lawkeeper even fell on the floor as the train stopped at Azadpur station on the Yellow Line. He later got up with the help of fellow passengers.

In June, a video clip of a man urinating on a metro had gone viral. In 2013, video clips of couples getting intimate at Metro stations went viral on the web. The same year, the Delhi Police had fined over 5,500 people for entering the Metro premises in drunken state.
