JOIN USWe'll mull Ram temple ordinance after legal process: PM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday ruled out immediate promulgation of an ordinance for building the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, saying it can be considered only after the judicial process is completed.
“The matter is in courts and almost on the verge of completion. Let the courts address it first. Once the judicial process is over, we are ready to make every effort as far as the government's responsibility is concerned,” Modi told in an interview to ANI.
In the 95-minute interview, Modi also hit out at the Congress and its lawyers for creating hurdles in the legal process in the Supreme Court.
“In the court, Congress lawyers who are creating hurdles should stop from doing so. Instead, all the lawyers should concentrate their energies on speedy disposal of the matter in the court,” Modi said. He said the BJP has mentioned in its manifesto that a solution to this issue would be found within the ambit of the Constitution.
“Nobody can deny that those sitting in the governments in the last 70 years have tried their best to stall a solution to this (Ayodhya) issue,” Modi said, urging political parties not to weigh the Ram Temple issue in “political terms”.
The Supreme Court is expected to take up the title suit of the disputed site in Ayodhya later this week and also decide on a day-to-day hearing of the matter.
Modi also rejected suggestions that the BJP was a demoralised lot after its electoral loss in three Hindi heartland states last month.
“No reason for morale down. We are confident and are moving ahead. In 2019, if there is one party which the country trusts and is connected with the people, it is the BJP,” the prime minister said.
Modi said the upcoming Lok Sabha elections will be a contest between those who will fufil the aspirations of the people and those who have tried to thwart it.
The prime minister made it clear that nobody was expecting the BJP to form government in Telangana and Mizoram. “In Chhattisgarh, the results were decisive, but in the other two states, it was a hung assembly,” he said.
On agrarian distress, Modi said farm loan waiver was not a long-term solution to farmers' problems.
“What is lacking in our system, that the farmer becomes debt-ridden and the governments have to repeat the vicious cycle of elections and loan waivers. So the solution is to empower the farmers. From seed to market, give all facilities to them,” he said.
Modi also accused the Congress of misleading the people and spreading lies on farm loan waivers. “Look at the circulars they have issued. They said they will waive all farm loans. The truth is nothing like that has happened,” the prime minister said.
