Five killed in fire in Pune saree godown

In a shocking incident, five labourers died in an incident of fire in a famous saree shop-cum-godown in Pune district in the wee hours of Thursday.

The fire broke out in Devachi Urli area on outskirts of the city. According to the Pune (Rural) police, the fire was reported between 0400 and 0500 hrs when the workers were asleep in a room above the shop. The blaze quickly spread from the shop to the room above and the workers were suffocated to death.

Ten fire tenders and water tankers were rushed to the spot to douse the fire. Sarees worth several crores were gutted in the fire.
