When actress-model Urmila Matondkar joined the Congress and was named a candidate from Mumbai North, she became the biggest celebrity to take the plunge into electoral politics, this year.
However, she is not the only one among the Mumbai candidates and politicians to have a connection with the Hindi film and TV industry.
Newly-appointed Mumbai Congress president Milind Deora's father-in-law is Manmohan Shetty, the founder of Adlabs Flims Ltd. Its facility in the FilmCity is one of the most-sought after processing labs of Bollywood. He has produced several films including 1983's Ardh Satya, starring Om Puri, Smita Patil, Naseeruddin Shah, Sadashiv Amrapurkar and Shafi Inamdar.
What is more interesting is that Shekhar Kapoor's superhit film Masoom in which Urmila was a child actress, was processed in Adlabs. Milind Deora seems to have been instrumental in seeking the ticket for Urmila Matondkar from Mumbai North, as per news reports.
Congress candidate from Mumbai North-Central, Priya Dutt is the daughter of legendary Bollywood couple Sunil Dutt and Nargis and sister of Sanjay Dutt. Her sister Namrata Dutt is married to Kumar Gaurav, the son of late Rajendra Kumar.
