Won't campaign as speeches cut Cong votes: Digvijay

Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh said that he has opted out of the campaigning for the party in Madhya Pradesh.

In video, which has gone viral, Digvijay Singh is seen telling party workers in Bhopal that “Whoever get (Congress) ticket, even if it's your enemy, you must ensure their victory. My job is only one (coordination), no campaigning, no speeches. My speeches cut Congress’s votes, so I don’t go (for campaigning)”.

The video was purportedly shot on last Saturday but went viral on Tuesday.

Digvijay’s statement has created political storm, at a time when Congress president Rahul Gandhi is on a touring the state.

Reacting to the statement, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that he had never thought that the Congress would render its leader to such a plight.

The Congress' Madhya Pradesh unit president Kamal Nath said that he was not aware in what context did Digvijay Singh made the statement.

Digvijay has been lying low all through the campaigning in the state.

He is entrusted with the task of coordinating Congress workers across the Madhya Pradesh and is doing the job without fanfare.

His cut outs were conspicuously missing during Rahul’s Bhopal visit on September 17. Later, Kamal Nath had publicly apologised to Digvijay Singh for this.

However, even after that Digvijay has maintained a low profile while the duo of Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kamal Nath are on the forefront of the party's campaigning.

BSP supremo Mayawati had recently accused Digvijay for obstructing a tie-up between her party with the Congress and called the senior Congress leader a BJP’s agent.
