No sticky matters in AAP meet

Agenda doesn't mention Bhushan, Yadav sacking

The Aam Aadmi Party has excluded all the contentious issues from the agenda of the National Council meeting scheduled to be held on March 28.

The agenda, circulated on Tuesday, does not even mention the expulsion of Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan from the Political Affairs Committee.

A careful examination of the agenda reveals that the leadership has also avoided reconstitution of the Political Affairs Committee and the National Executive, which have been  key demands of the Yadav-Prashant camp.

There is a standard procedure of ratifying decisions of the National Executive at the meeting of the National Council. But this is not on agenda. There are two open-ended items which may allow warring factions of the party to fight each other. One is “current organisational status” and other suggestions on “organisation building”.

Party sources say that removal of Yadav and Prashant Bhushan form the PAC may be announced under the item ‘Current Organisational Status’. Another item can open a debate over what is to be done to reorganise the party. This may lead to various demands including reorganising the PAC and the NE. However, last minute efforts to form a consensus on contentious issues continued on Tuesday.

Anand Kumar and Ajit Jha, who represents Yadav and Bhushan, met Sanjay Singh, Ashutosh and Ashish Khetan. This is being done on a daily basis. Despite their claim of rapprochement, things do not seem to be clear.

Both factions are claiming that things have been sorted out to make room for working together. But the Kejriwal faction seems to be creating pressure on Bhushan and Yadav to quit party posts. The supporters of the dissenting leaders, on the other hand, are trying to bring the duo back to the PAC.

The National Council meeting has listed the following agenda: welcome address, report of National Secretary, report of National Treasurer, report on Delhi Elections and update on Delhi government, current organisation status, suggestion by NC members on Delhi government and organisational building, open House discussion on the Land Acquisition Bill and address by the national convenor.
