In order to end increasing environment pollution, the Chikkaballapur district administration has banned plastic products on Nandi Hills, besides declaring the Hills as ‘Complete Plastic Free Area’.

Over 80,000 tourists visit the hills every year and abandon plastic water bottles, plates, cups, spoons and bags wherever they like affecting the environment and natural beauty which necessitated the action.

The district administration has issued guidelines to be followed to ensure the area is free of plastic.

As per the guidelines, carrying of plastic bags, pamphlets, flexes, buntings, cups, bottles, plates, papers, spoons and any other materials manufactured using thermocol and plastic micro beads have been banned.

There will be teams at the entrance to thoroughly frisk visitors, checking out for plastic products.

If norms are violated, the sleuths will seize the plastic products, levy Rs 1,000 fine and register criminal cases.

Bottles and other packets purchased atop the hills should be disposed of in locations identified for the same.
