PLD bank polls put off: Hebbalkar stages stir

Belagavi: MLA Laxmi Hebbalkar launched a protest late on Monday night, in front of the office of the tahsildar in the city, against the sudden deferment of elections to the posts of president and vice-president in the Primary Land Development Bank. The elections were slated for Tuesday.

Hebbalkar, representing the Belagavi Rural assembly constituency, was accompanied by nine directors (out of 14) supporting her.

Laxmi said she would continue the protest till the elections were conducted. She said tahsildar Manjula Nayak had deferred the elections without giving any genuine reason and without consulting higher officials.

The elections were postponed just to prevent her supporters from getting elected as the president and vice president of the bank. She said a false complaint had been filed against her, saying one of the directors had been kidnapped by her.
