Probe anti-Kejri plan: AAP

Last Updated 23 August 2014, 20:53 IST

The AAP has demanded a probe into the alleged conspiracy to attack party chief Arvind Kejriwal at a public meeting in Kirari Assembly constituency.

The Aam Aadmi Party asked for the probe on Saturday after a Hindi news channel aired a sting operation, where a man, swearing loyalty to local BJP MLA Anil Jha, revealed his plan to attempt an attack.

“Anil Jha himself should be interrogated and all those involved in the incident should be exposed,” party leader Ashutosh said after meeting Delhi Police Special Commissioner Deepak Mishra.

The party said the conspirators wanted to carry out a “murderous” attack on Kejriwal.
“Jha’s close associate, Lokesh, is shown confessing it in the sting by the news channel. Lokesh is also seen saying in the footage that they were planning to carry out another murderous attack on Arvind Kejriwal in his meeting scheduled to be held in Kirari on Sunday,” Ashutosh said in his memorandum to Mishra.

AAP alleged that Jha knew about the attack on Kejriwal by an autoricksh
aw driver during campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls in North West Delhi constituency. A day after the attack, Kejriwal had reached out to his attacker with a bouquet.

“Interrogation of the individual shown in the sting, along with BJP MLA from Kirari Anil Jha, will reveal the scale of the conspiracy,” the AAP said in a statement.

“The sting confirms the apprehensions expressed by AAP since March-April this year in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections,” it said.

AAP leader Dilip Pandey said BJP MLAs are resorting to “dirty” politics.  “Last month, another BJP MLA from Rajendra Nagar, R P Singh, was found involved in beating up a junior engineer of the Delhi Jal Board in his office,” he added.

Ashutosh said those in public life do not need security cover. The party did not make it clear whether Kejriwal will address the public meeting on Sunday.
