State Chief Information Commissioner Dr Suchetana Swaroopa said there was no need to gather information which does not come under the jurisdiction of the local office.

Only the information which is available in the respective office can be provided to the information seekers, as per the Right to Information Act, he added.

Speaking during a meeting with the officials of appellate authorities, at the DC’s office hall in Madikeri on Wednesday, he said that the information act is simple and clear. The officials should not consider it to be a burden.

The officials concerned should provide information to the queries under the act, within 30 days.

If the office is not in possession of the sought information, the applicant has to be provided with an endorsement by the concerned authority.

There is no need to provide information regarding court proceedings and the personal information.

The cooperative organizations do not come under the jurisdiction of the information act. But, the organizations receiving government subsidies are covered by the act, said Dr Suchetana Swaroopa.

“Also, there is no need to provide information to the queries mentioned in letterheads and signed letters. The information can only be provided against written applications,” he added.

The State Chief Information Commissioner meanwhile called upon the government officials to maintain
transparency in the administration.

Deputy Commissioner P I Srividya, Superintendent of Police Sumana D Pannekara, Zilla Panchayat CEO Prashant Kumar Mishra, Additional Deputy Commissioner Pravin Kumar and Assistant Commissioner Dr Nanjundegowda were present.
