Waking up to the possibilities of poor performance in Lok Sabha elections, state Congress camp is all geared up to undertake massive damage control exercise.
Sensing that there could be a back-to-back defeats-in Lok Sabha elections, after a huge defeat in the Assembly elections, the party is soon going to constitute a Nisthawan Congress Karyakarta Sammelan (Dedicated Congress workers Cell).
It will contemplate the reasons of party’s defeat in Assembly elections and the one anticipated in Lok Sabha elections.
The cell will organise state level conventions where all seniors leaders, having more than 20 years of association with party, will be invited.
The first convention will be organized on June 15 in BM Birla auditorium in Jaipur.
Renewing efforts
“Dedicated leaders of state unit of Congress party have upped their efforts to infuse life into the party. Party will now use the experience of all senior leaders and party workers, who were constantly complaining for being ignored,” said a senior congress leader.
The first convention will be organised on June 15, in which all leaders, office-bearers, and former heads of corporations, commissions and boards would be invited.
They will discuss ways to revive and strengthen the party, he added.
Leaders informed that around 4,000 Congressmen are expected to attend the Convention in which former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, PCC Chief Sachin Pilot, national general secretary C P Joshi and Union minister Jitendra Singh and other senior leaders would interact with congressmen and take their feedback.
Interaction
The convention will comprise of two sessions. The first session will comprise of feedback meeting and interaction with party workers while in second session party is expected to take some major decision. Political and financial proposals will also be passed in the convention.
Sources in the party informed that leaders will also prepare a detailed strategy to counter BJP-led government in the state and pressurize government to continue with public welfare schemes, started earlier by Gehlot government in the state.
Interestingly it’s the old guards of Congress camp who have been given the responsibility to constitute the cell.
Party has given the message that senior leaders are integral part of Congress by bringing them back in the mainstream of the party.
Those attending the convention will not only give the possible reasons of Congress’ defeat in the state but internal fractions and infighting will also be disclosed.
“The entire exercise is being conducted to revive the party completely. Congress is the oldest party in the country which has seen lots of ups and downs. On the basis of the feedback, party may take some hard decisions,” said a senior congress leader.
