US expert panel recommends authorising J&J Covid vaccine

This will clear the way for a third vaccine in the US

An independent panel of US experts voted unanimously in favor of granting emergency approval to Johnson & Johnson's one-shot Covid-19 vaccine, clearing the way for a third vaccine to be authorised in the world's hardest hit country.

"I think what we have to keep in mind is that we're still in the midst of this deadly pandemic, there is a shortage of vaccines that are currently authorized," said Archana Chatterjee, a panelist, explaining her vote.

"I think authorisation of this vaccine will help meet the needs at the moment."
