Skin Safar Rath: Chariot to reach Manipal

Last Updated 09 January 2019, 18:42 IST

A Skin Safar Rath campaign has been organised to create awareness on skin hygiene and skin-related diseases as a part of a community outreach programme.

The campaign is being organised by the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) and the chariot will reach Manipal on January 10.

Professor Dr Sathish Pai, KMC, told reporters that the campaign will also discuss the early detection and treatment of leprosy. “Awareness is created through LED screen displays, demonstrations, street plays, slogans, distribution of pamphlets and speeches,” said Dr Pai.

The Association is involved in such activities for 25 years. The Skin Safar Rath will conclude at Noida on February 18. The journey began on December 21 and aims to cover 11,500 km in 15 states over 60 days. The chariot will come to Manipal from Hubballi, it will pass through Tiger Circle, Syndicate Bank, MJC, Kalsanka, City Bus Stop, Big Bazaar, and the Government Hospital at Ajjarkadu.

Dr Pai said that awareness will also be created on irrational use of steroid creams. “Such creams have caused fungal infections. There are ointments and fairness creams sold in the market that have high levels of steroid. In any case of skin problem, it is essential to consult a dermatologist with an MD, diploma and DNB qualifications,” he explained.

He added that it was frightening how drug companies manage to obtain permission to introduce new anti-fungal formulations.
