Superintendent of Police Lakshmi Prasad has warned of initiating strict action against those who violate the model code of conduct enforced in view of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“The Police Department has a responsibility to conduct the election peacefully,” he stressed while addressing a meeting of the district-level officers on Tuesday.

He said the police have to maintain a strict vigil over the distribution of cash, liquor and other materials to voters and ensure that there is no violation of model code of conduct.

They should also ensure that no untoward incidents take place and proxy voters do not sneak into the district from outside the state, he
added.

Flying squad, static surveillance teams should be alert, he said and directed the assistant commissioner to make arrangements to provide vehicles for the team.

The SP urged members of the public to keep documents with them when they are carrying cash more than Rs 50,000. Cash without proper documents will be seized. Even the election materials cannot be transported without documents, he added.
