85th birthday of celebrated Indian author Ruskin Bond

Anyone who's read Ruskin Bond knows that he captures nature like few others. More than 500 of his works describe nature's serenity and people's lives in a mesmerising way. On his 85th Birthday, we have a primer on Bond stories that have moved from page to screen.

'Susanna's Seven Husbands'
The horror story revolves around Susanna and her seven husbands who suffer mysterious deaths soon after marriage. Priyanka Chopra’s Bollywood movie '7 Khoon Maaf' based on the story may be worth a look.

'The Blue Umbrella'
Set in the village of Banikhet in Himachal Pradesh, this story is about a young girl Binny and her blue umbrella that's popular because of its beauty. It deals with her journey hunting for her lost umbrella and the emotions surrounding it. Vishal Bhardwaj’s “The Blue Umbrella” is an adaptation worth checking out.

'A Flight of Pigeons'

This fictional story is set during the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny. It is about the struggle of an individual caught between his love for his country and attachment to the rank that's been given. Shyam Benegal’s 1978 classic 'Junoon' is based on the novella.

'Parchayee: Ghost stories by Ruskin Bond'

A 'Parchayee' adaptation began streaming on Zee 5. It's a collection of episodes based on Bond's horror short stories. Some popular ones are 'The Ghost In The Garden', 'The Wind On Haunted Hill', 'Wilson’s Bridge' and 'The Overcoat'. There are nine episodes of the web series available that will keep you up at night.
