Fitness resolution 2021: Here's how Apple Watch can help you reach the goals

Last Updated 22 February 2021, 08:38 IST

On every new year's eve, many take the resolution to get fit and embrace a healthy lifestyle. But, very few have the motivation to keep it going throughout the year.

Add to that Covid-19 still prevalent around the world and work-From-Home will continue preferred option for corporates. It becomes imperative for individuals to plan the day to make sure time is allotted for the fitness routine. This is not just important for physical health, but also ensures the body has sufficient energy to negate the stress due to over-work or meet tight deadlines.

It is good for people to invest in the smart wearable to track the physical activity throughout the day and also manage time well for work and fitness routine. Among the many, Apple Watch has the best biometric trackers and also the most intelligent interface to nudge people subtly to be active.

DH interacted with Bengaluru-based fitness expert Shwetambari Shetty for suggestions on key features and apps that you must try to get the best out of the Apple Watch.

Apple Watch's Activity Rings is the best native application to keep you active all through the day. Users can custom set the goals, but it should ensure your body does a good amount of physical activity. Shetty suggests you should set the 'Move' goal of 10,000 steps every day, 30 minutes of Exercise, and 12 hours of Stand goal.

"Just knowing how much I move (accurate step count), and tracking my workouts and sleep has helped me get to my goal. The reminders to move and stand often and closing the Activity Rings daily, helps me stay consistent," Shetty added.

"Also, I use the Sleep tracking app and rely on it a lot to figure out my workout of the day. If I haven't had good sleep I change any high-intensity workouts with something easier or maybe skip the workout and just get my steps in," Shetty noted.

Furthermore, Shetty suggests using the Workouts app and do any of the activities such as Badminton or others to cut excess fat in your body.

Also, make sure to check ECG and Blood Oxygen level (only available on Watch Series 6), routinely to understand the body condition.

There are a good number of third-party apps for Apple Watch and Shetty suggests two-- My Fitness Pal and CureFit.

"I use My Fitness Pal extensively, helps me track my daily intake and I have connected my Apple Watch data with this app to ensure the data is as accurate as possible. And I use Cure Fit to do Dance Fitness workouts on a regular basis. Also for Yoga on active recovery days," Shetty noted.
