Recipe: beat the heat with these healthy ice creams

These fruity ice creams contain no sugar or oil. Despite being made from fresh fruit and milk, or milk substitutes, you won't even realise that they are healthy recipes.

Strawberry ice cream

Ingredients:

3 bananas, previously peeled, sliced and frozen overnight

1 cup of strawberries, de-stemmed and frozen overnight

1/2 cup coconut milk powder

Makes 6 to 8 servings

Directions: Let the fruit thaw slightly before using. Place all ingredients in a high-power food processor or blender and pulse until creamy. The consistency of the ice cream will be soft and smooth, but it can be placed in the freezer to harden if desired. Garnish with sliced strawberry, banana, or coconut flakes.

Pineapple ice cream

Ingredients:

2 cups pineapple, chopped and frozen overnight

1/4 cup milk

3 tsp lime juice

Makes 8 to 10 servings

Directions: Allow the pineapple to thaw slightly. Place all ingredients in a food processor or blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Garnish with fresh pineapple.

Watermelon sorbet

Ingredients:

1 cup watermelon, cubed

1 banana, previously peeled, sliced and frozen overnight

1/2 tsp lime juice

1/2 tsp peppermint extract (optional)

Makes 4 to 6 servings

Directions: Allow the banana to thaw slightly and then blend together all ingredients until it reaches a smooth consistency. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
