Samsung brings Galaxy S20 FE 5G, TV Plus OTT service to India

In October 2020, Samsung unveiled the special Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE). The company offered the device in two variants-- 5G model with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 octa-core chipset and a 4G LTE model with 7nm class 2.7GHz Exynos 990 EUV octa-core CPU.

In India, the company released just the Galaxy S20 FE 4G model, and now, it has launched the 5G variant in the country with competitive pricing to take on OnePlus and Apple phones.

It is available for Rs 55,999 on Samsung.com, Amazon.in, Samsung Exclusive Stores and leading retail outlets. For a limited time, it is offering Rs 8,000 instant cashback, bringing the cost to Rs 47,999.

As mentioned above, except for the processor, everything else including display, battery, storage, and camera hardware is the same in the Galaxy S20 FE 5G and LTE models.

The Galaxy S20 FE sports an Infinity-O display design language. It has a 6.5-inch Full HD+ (2400 × 1080p) super AMOLED having a pixel density of 407ppi (pixels per inch), an optical fingerprint sensor, and supports a 120Hz display refresh rate. Also, it comes with an IP68 rating.

Inside, it comes with Android 10-based One UI 2.5 OS, 6GB/8GB RAM (LPDDR5), 128GB/256GB storage (+ expandable up to 1TB via microSD card), and a 4500mAh.
The Galaxy S20 FE also supports 25W fast charging, Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 USB PD 3.0 (PPS) certified Fast Charging for wired charging (AFC and QC2.0 compatible), and Wireless PowerShare feature to power up other phones wirelessly.

As far as the photography hardware is concerned, it features a quad-camera module--main 12MP (with f/1.8 aperture, PDAF: Phase detection Auto Focus, 1.12μm Pixel Size, 79-degree FOV: Field-Of-View, OIS: Optical Image Stabilisation), backed by an 8MP Telephoto lens (with 32-degree FoV, f/2.4 aperture, Dual Pixel AF, 1.8μm Pixel Size, PDAF, OIS) and a 12MP 123-degree ultra-wide sensor (with 1.0μm Pixel Size, f/2.2 aperture) with Tracking AF, 3X Optical Zoom, up to 30x Super-Resolution Zoom and LED flash. On the front, it features a 32MP camera with an 80-degree wide-angle lens and f/2.0 aperture.

Also, the company launched the proprietary OTT (Over-The-Top) service Samsung TV Plus in India. It offers news, sports, entertainment, and more for free.

It is compatible only with the Samsung smart TV models from 2017 to 2021 and users will be able to access 27 global and local channels. More partners will be on-boarded soon to make the service more robust. Also, it will be available on select Galaxy phones (with Android Oreo and newer version) later this month.

Samsung TV Plus will be competing with Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+Hotstar, SonyLiv, and others in India.
