Arabian Prince stuns Becket

Ryan Marshall-ridden Arabian Prince, trained by JS Dhariwal, took the day’s honours while overwhelming favourite Becket only managed a third-place finish in the Maharaja’s Cup (Grade II) over 2200 metres, the main event of Sunday’s races here.
Second favourite Spearhead, steered by JG Sampson, and Western Command (Ranjeet Singh up) were the pacesetters with Suraj Narredu-ridden Becket right behind the two.
At the straight, Becket made his move and pulled away from the front-runners and looked on his way to another win.
But Onassis, ridden by B Prakash, and Arabian Prince came through from the outside with about 600 metres to go and quickly caught up with Becket. With about 200 metres left, the two went ahead of the Invitation Cup winner with Vijay Mallya-owned Arabian Prince edging out the Pesi Shroff-ward by a long neck.
