Bill mooted for sports quota in MNCs

Youth Services and Sports minister M P Appachu Ranjan said the government would introduce a bill in the Assembly soon to facilitate provision of five per cent reservation to sportspersons in private and multi-national companies.

The Minister was speaking at the inaugural function of the Mysore Dasara Games here on Sunday.

The minister also announced that tenders will be called again to lay a synthetic track at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium here.

This will be the third time that the tenders are being invited and the minister was categorical that even if there is a single bid, the contract will be awarded to lay the track.

Paralympics silver medalist in high jump H N Gireesha inaugurated the event while Olympian Vikas Gowda, who finished eighth in discus throw in London, carried the torch. A cheque for Rs 5 lakh was presented to Vikas.

Ekalavya awardees from Mysore Kruthika Lakshman, Prateek Raj and Prajna; captain of Indian junior girls basket ball team Nishya Joseph and national athlete Baby Sumaya were felicitated on the occasion. The events will start from Monday.
