R Ashwin breaks unique over 100-year-old record against England on Day 4

India need 420 runs to win the Test match

Ravichandran Ashwin led an India comeback to bowl England out for 178 in their second innings. Ashwin picked up six wickets for 61 runs and went past legendary England bowler Sir Ian Botham's tally of 383 Test wickets. The off-spinner currently has 386 wickets in Test cricket.

However, that was not the only record that Ashwin broke in that innings. When he got England opener Rory Burns out off the first ball of the innings, he achieved a unique feat. He became the first spinner in more than 100 years to take a wicket off the first ball of an innings.

The last spinner to achieve the feat was South African cricketer Bert Vogler back in 1907 and the first one to do so was former England bowler Bobby Peel in 1888.

India need a massive 420 runs to win the first Test match. They had lost opener Rohit Sharma by the close of play.
