<p>Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) stunned fancied Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) 25-20, 25-16, 25-21 in the opening match of the fourth phase of the inaugural Karnataka Volley League at the Swami Vivekananda grounds here on Friday. <br /><br /></p>.<p>With the victory, DYSS ran away with three points while BSNL, the State ‘A’ Division champions, will have to wait for their next match to open their account. <br /><br />BSNL, who are on a high after winning the second and third phases of the KVL, were a tired lot after finishing their engagements in Bangarpet on Thursday night. The weariness after travel appeared to have taken a toll on their performance in the match. <br /><br />In the first set, DYSS stamped authority over their more superior opponents with captain Suraj G Nayak and Bharath B in good nick. The duo fired some point-winning smashes for the underdogs as they took a healthy 18-12 lead. <br /><br />Although BSNL pulled back things through Sujith and Anil Bernard, DYSS held onto their lead to grab the set 25-20. <br /><br />DYSS sailed through the second set comfortably 25-16 with Vinayak and Raison garnering them a large share of the points. BSNL’s only fight was put up by Karthik A, who fetched a few points which turned out to be inconsequential eventually. <br /><br />The third set saw a similar tale unfolding as the first two sets. DYSS raced to a 11-5 lead with Ganesh and Nayak in the thick of action with their smashes and drop shots. <br /><br />Anup D’Costa was off colour on the day but managed a few points for BSNL but it just wasn’t enough as DYSS closed out the match at 25-21. <br /><br />Results: DYSS bt BSNL 25-20, 25-16, 25-21; ASC bt KSP 25-23, 25-20, 25-22.</p>
