I am the best player in history of football: Cristiano Ronaldo as he turns 40

'I have never seen anyone better than me,' the current highest goalscorer in the Saudi league said.

Cristiano Ronaldo is turning 40, but the football star shows no signs of his confidence -- that marked much of his career -- fading.

"I am the greatest scorer in history," the Real Madrid forward who is currently the highest scorer in the Saudi league for Al Nassr, said.

He was speaking to Spanish television channel La Sexta. "Although I am not left-footed, I am in the top 10 in history for goals scored with the left foot. These are numbers, I am the most complete player who has ever existed," Ronaldo continued.

"I play well with my head, I take good free kicks, I am fast, I am strong, I jump... I have never seen anyone better than me," he also said.

"Taste is one thing, saying this, that or that, whether you prefer Messi, Pele or Maradona, I hear it and I respect it but to say that Cristiano isn't complete is a lie. I'm the most complete. I don't see anyone better than me and I tell you that with all my heart," the player claimed.

The Portugal star has the most records in international men's football including the most appearances with 217 and the most goals with 135.

In earlier instances too, Ronaldo had said he felt he would go out as the best ever in the history of the sport. On comparisons between him and Messi, the Portuguese powerhouse always had praise for the Argentine magician, but ended up siding with himself.

Reacting to Ronaldo's comments, Javier Mascherano, a former teammate of Messi and his current coach at Inter Miami said "I have a lot of respect for Cristiano and I don't have to analyze his opinions. It's what he thinks. I have my own thoughts and it isn't that," as per Associated Press.
