I-League 2: SC Bengaluru post maiden win of season

SC Bengaluru posted their first win of the I-League 2 season as they defeated table toppers United SC 2-0 at the Dravid-Padukone Centre of Excellence here on Tuesday.

First-half goals by Chanambam Samananda Singh (29th minute) and Devadath S (in pic) (40th) sealed the victory over a tricky Kolkata outfit, who held Bengaluru United to a 1-1 draw at the same venue last week.

Devadath also joined the golden boot race with the goal as the No. 10 earlier scored in the season opener in a 3-3 draw against GMSC in Mumbai.

In another match played on the day, Sporting Goa defeated visiting Sudeva Delhi through a solitary goal by Alister Anthony in the 73rd minute to break the deadlock.

On the points table, the victory puts the 2023-24 champions SCB fourth on the points table with five points in three matches while United (still at first with 7 points in 4 matches) in a joint lead with Delhi FC (7 in 3) and Sporting Goa (7 in 4). All teams will play just eight matches in the truncated season with the champions and the runners-up progressing to the Indian Football League.

More Bengaluru action continues in the league on Wednesday as FCBU host Manipur's NEROCA FC, who will also face SCB on Monday (April 20).
