I always had belief in my game: Baby

In a Royal Challengers Bangalore batting line-up loaded with superstars, chances are hard to come by as many warm the benches. Sachin Baby was gifted with two appearances and the Kerala cricketer did enough to show that he can hold his own among the big boys.

He scored 27 against Sunrisers Hyderabad and 16 versus Kolkata Knight Riders to bolster his case lower down the order. Strutting out on an energy-sapping afternoon for an optional practice session, the 27-year-old said he always believed he would get a chance to showcase his skills. “I always believed in my game. My coach and captain have always backed me right from the beginning. The coach had asked me to be prepared to make best use of the opportunity that I would get.”

The Royal Challengers, despite some splendid batting performances, have been let down by their bowlers that has seen them post just two wins in seven matches. Baby, however, said the morale is quite high and they are looking to do a second-half encore.

“We are only looking at the positives. We batted really well but the bowling failed. But now we have Chris Jordan in our team. We have been lacking a quality bowler, so Chris’ arrival will strengthen our line-up and hopefully we will start winning. We are pretty much like Mumbai Indians, who were at the bottom of the table midway last season but fought back to win the title. So we are hoping that we too will start winning.”
