<p>The second round of the Indian National Racing Championships will be ceremonially flagged off by Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa from the Bangalore Palace on August 20.<br />The rally will, however, officially start from Ram Farms, Siddhalagatta, some 30 kms away from the City, the following day.<br /><br />KMSC will bring in International observers and have invited a chief steward from Malaysia for the first time.<br /><br />“This year’s rally will be an event to look forward to. We have conducted the K-1000 for 35 years and it has been a grand success everytime. We will do everything in our power to make sure this event meets international standards,” said Praneet Perumal, president of KMSC. Before the onset of stages, organised tulip charts and tarmac roads, the K-1000 involved one lone leg on non-modified cars carrying four people, two drivers and two navigators.<br /><br />“We barely had roads and cars had no power steering and no power brakes, the lights were very poor. I am not taking anything away from the guys who race now, but back then, it was a race that involved human ingenuity and the connection a driver had with his machine.” said Vinod Shivappa, president of the Coorg Motorsports Club and the first ever winner, alongside co-driver Shivakumar, of the K-1000.<br /><br />This year‘s main attraction, besides the fast-paced cars and the scenic routes, will be the Super Special stage at the Manyata Tech Park on Sunday, whichwill be flagged off by Indian cricket skipper and speed enthusiast Mahendra Singh Dhoni.<br /><br />DH News Service</p>
