Not a cakewalk for Brazil to reach last 16

Last Updated 23 June 2018, 13:35 IST

From Germany's shock loss to Argentina hanging on by a thread, the FIFA World Cup 2018 has been a sobering experience for major teams.

Another favourite Brazil also made a stuttering start to their campaign.

Though Brazil managed to score two goals against Costa Rica and topped group E, they still face a tough battle to reach the next round. Switzerland managed to secure the second spot as they came from behind to beat Serbia.

But unlike Argentina, the Canaries' fate is in their own hands. With just two matches left in Group E (both on June 27 at 11.30 PM), Brazil, Switzerland and Serbia will battle it out to qualify for the last 16.

Currently, Brazil and Switzerland both have 4 points while Serbia has three. Brazil will face Serbia while Switzerland's opponents are winless Costa Rica who have already been eliminated.

Brazil will look for a victory or a draw vs Serbia to ensure they progress to the next round. If Serbia beat Brazil and Switzerland manage a draw with Costa Rica, both the European countries will march into the last 16. With so much at stake, Bacchi and team have their work cut out in the final group match.
