Harshjeet seizes halfway lead

Karnataka’s Asmitha Sathish shot a 74 to take the joint lead in the junior girls’ event.

Delhi teenager Harshjeet Sethie produced an attacking display of golf to seize the halfway lead in the IGU Nutrite-Rotary Karnataka Amateur Golf Championship here on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old fired as many as eight birdies against three bogeys to card five-under 67 and take a two-shot lead after totalling 137 at the Eagleton Golf Resort. Overnight leader Rohan Dhole Patil slipped to second following a 72 while the trio of Yuvraj Singh, HS Kang and Harsh Gangwar were tied third at 142.

Karnataka teenager Asmitha Sathish, of KGA, fired a 77 to share the lead with Hitaashee Bakshi in the junior girls and ladies section combined. Although the duo is competing in junior girls category A section, their scores were way better than ladies' leader Gettika Ahuja.

Harshjeet, a 10th tee starter, took a little while to get his eye in but once he did, he went on a birdie hunting spree. He nailed three successive birdies from the 14th to the 16th before dropping a shot on the 17th.

He instantly made amends though, picking up birdies on the 18th and first holes. The tendency to keep attacking the pins though has its dangers and he bogeyed on the second and third to suffer a minor setback.

Even then he refused to curb his attacking instincts and smashed birdies on the fourth, sixth and ninth holes to rise up the leaderboard.
