The Swimming Federation of India on Tuesday revealed that the Senior Nationals will be held from March 24-27 in Rajkot. However, this event will not be among the Olympic qualification event.
“This is the 2020 championship. Right now the swimmers are just coming out of lockdown training so there is no point in making this a qualification event. For the next championship, for 2021, in June, SFI will try and obtain accreditation from FINA (the international body). It should not be a problem since they are giving it,” said Monal Chokshi, SFI secretary. The SFI will also conduct separate water polo and diving championships from this year on.
The Karnataka state championship will be held on March 4. The SFI are also planning an all-India ranking tournament, which will be based on time trial format so that more swimmers can take part in the event. The SFI are also planning an U-17 league but for that to come to fruition, the state federations have to come together.
